WMP and MVC National Age Camp 2022

February 4, 2022

On January 17th, WMP and MVC national age swimmers participated in a three day training camp in Ballarat

On January 17th, WMP members joined MVC and the MSAC National Age squad on a three day camp to Ballarat. The camp was designed to prepare our athletes for the upcoming National Age Championships to be held in Adelaide in April.

Day one started with a session at MSAC and a team breakfast before jumping on the bus headed for Ballarat. The afternoon session was completed at the fantastic Ballarat Aquatic Centre. A post training recovery session was required before an evening of games. A rendition of Boom-Bah, Ayah left many of the team members on the floor with laughter.

The second day started with a swim in the picturesque outdoor Eureka pool. Whilst being the middle of summer, swimmers had to re-adjust to cold mornings training outdoors. The main activity for the day was a hike of Mt. Buninyong. After getting slightly lost, the team found the track and descended the dormant volcano. After a two hour descent, the decision was made to take the shorter but much steeper route back to the summit. The quickest of pit stops and back to the pool for some 200 pace work.

The final day and final swim. It was back to Eureka pool for a beautiful sunrise. The route back to Melbourne included a pit stop at Pykes Creek for a swim in the pond. Who knew swimmers never get tired of being wet!

Camps are never complete without a quick Maccas run before touch down back home.

Thank you to Adrian Hirsh and MVC for assisting to put the camp together. It was a fantastic effort to get a camp off the ground during Covid times but the team did a fantastic job to ensure everyone who went was safe and enjoyed themselves. Looking forward to the next one!
