On Saturday February 25th, head coach Marcus Blake and 21 swimmers from both Western Melbourne Propulsion and our affiliated swim school, the Swim Academy Network, travelled to Greensborough to compete in the DVE Aquatic Jackson Car Encouragement Meet.
Jackson Car was a DVE club member who sadly passed away in 2022. This meet was organised in his memory and as an effort to raise funds for the Olivia Newton-John Cancer Foundation.
Our competitors spanned from level 5 in learn-to-swim, all the way up to the state squad, and were mentored by senior athletes from the state and national squads.
The meet saw our swimmers compete in 67 races, resulting in an amazing 57 personal bests! Twenty-one of those were improvements on existing times, and 36 were PBs set in events that were courageously being raced for the first time. It was invaluable competition experience.
It was great to see our coaches and swim teachers there encouraging our swimmers, together with club president, Luka, who caught up with our youngsters and their parents.
Thank you to all families who attended and supported a good cause. Shout-out to our mentors - Ahmed Elgammal, Chloe King, Taylor Moxon, Charlotte Ristig, Sienna Scodella, Rose Vaughan - and congratulations to all who competed!
