COVID-19 Update - 18/03/2020

March 18, 2020

Message from Committee regarding COVID-19 as per 18/03/2020

Dear all,

Western Melbourne Propulsion Swim Club would like to reiterate the statement regarding COVID-19 conveyed by our primary training provider, the Swim Academy Network, originally posted on Sunday 15 March on the club’s TeamApp.

In particular, we would like to emphasise the below aspects of the statement, modified to incorporate changes in training arrangements that have occurred since Sunday 15 March:

All SAN-operated training sessions have ceased at this time apart from: the SAN Age National Squad will cease after training with Marcus tomorrow morning on Thursday 19 March; PEGS in-school swimming lessons and squads will continue to operate until further notice; and the MSAC-operated high performance squad will continue to operate until further notice.

Please continue to reassure your children that they are safe and that the reason activities have been cancelled is to ensure the safety of all swimmers and families by limiting close contact in enclosed spaces.

Please also reassure swimmers that although training has been temporarily suspended, this will not have any significant impact on future success. Swimmers are encouraged to take the break in swimming to improve other necessary aspects of their holistic training regime. These activities include strength and conditioning training in addition to addressing any stressed or fatigued muscles through improved stretching techniques.

The original statement as modified to incorporate these changes in training arrangements is provided below.

Swimming Australia has provided a central hub for information and impacts of COVID-19 which can be accessed here.

Information and daily updates regarding COVID-19 generally can be accessed here.

Please do not hesitate to get in touch with the club if you have any concerns by emailing propulsion.secretary@gmail.com.

WMP and SAN thank you for your support during this trying time - we look forward to getting through this together, and getting back to what we do best.

Kind regards

Luka Zubcic - WMP President, and the WMP Committee

Dear Parents, Guardians and Swimmers,

Over the last 24 hours the Swim Academy Network admin team, senior coaches and I have come to the very difficult decision to cease all operations immediately for an indefinite period. We understand this decision may present challenges for swimmers, families and staff but we have taken a conservative approach to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our swimmers and the communities in which we operate.

Please note: the SAN Age National Squad will cease after training with Marcus tomorrow morning on Thursday 19 March. PEGS in-school swimming lessons and squads, as well as the MSAC-operated high performance squad, will continue to operate until further notice.

Why have we cancelled lessons?

Please be assured that SAN has not been informed of any suspected or confirmed cases of COVID-19. However, we also understand the risks associated with operating in smaller venues where we often have a number of swimmers, staff, parents and grandparents in close proximity in lessons, on pool deck and in changerooms. Although the risk in children and healthy adults is very low, we want to do everything possible to protect those most vulnerable in our community.

What to tell your children?

We understand that this announcement may cause additional stress and anxiety amongst our families and children who may be already struggling to comprehend why supermarket shelves are empty and activities are being cancelled. Please communicate to your children age appropriate facts and correct any misinformation that they may have heard. Continue to reassure them that they are safe and that the reason activities have been cancelled is to ensure the safety of all swimmers and families by limiting close contact in enclosed spaces.

Age, Open National and Metro All Junior Championships

On 13 March 2020, in light of the Federal Government’s announcements in respect to the coronavirus, Swimming Australia has decided to cancel the Australian Age and Open Championships in addition to Swimming Victoria cancelling the Victorian Metro All Junior Championships. Whilst this may seem disappointing to swimmers who have worked tirelessly in preparation for these events, please communicate to all athletes who have qualified for any of the above championships that the cancellation of their respective meets does not in any way diminish the amazing achievement of qualifying for a National or All Junior Championship.

Credits

Two weeks credit will be applied to your Term 3 invoice as we are hopeful of a return to swimming at the start of Term 2 and remind parents of the due date of 20 March for term two fees. However, should the situation change we will communicate with all families on how future credits, make-ups or refunds will be applied.

At SAN we also appreciate the financial impact that COVID-19 will have on many of our families. If you are experiencing any financial difficulty and require an immediate refund or payment plan for future invoices please email finance@swimacademynetwork.com.au and we will be able to assist.

SAN supports small business

We have been very fortunate to be welcomed and supported in local communities across all of our venues. We understand that some of our families who own small businesses may feel the economic impact of COVID-19. We would like to extend an invitation to advertise your small businesses in our SAN newsletter which will be distributed late next week and continue to advertise your business in future publications for 2020.

Please send your logo or advertisement to sbettiol@swimacademynetwork.com.au

As always we would like to thank all of our swimmers, parents and families for their continued support and we look forward to seeing you all back on pool deck in the not too distant future.

Kind regards,

Sebastian Bettiol and the entire SAN Team
