2022 Swimming Australia Open Water National Championships

February 25, 2022

Our Open water team put together some impressive results over the course of these championships

Despite being in the shadow of COVID, the first national championships of the 2022 season was held on beautiful Brighton beach in Adelaide. Our WMP team was able to overcome lock downs, illness and isolation to put together our best ever results.

The weekend started sensationally well with Robbe claiming his and our club's highest ever finish in the Open event at the championships. Robbe was able to close a gap of over a minute, in one lap, to finish a sensational 5th (highest placed Victorian). Robbe was then able to back it up again the next morning with a sensational 58.11 swim in the 5k, earning him 5th place in the Open category for that event.

Domi was in the next event in the Women's Open 10k, where she placed a sensational 13th with her 2nd fastest time ever over the 10k. Domi was able to then go even better in the 5k, placing 5th in that event.

Noah O'Donnell continues to show incredible tenacity and drive, placing 5th and highest placed Victorian in the 16 year old 7.5k swim. This is despite missing large chunks of training relative to his competitors due to Victorian lock downs. Noah was able to break the magical hour time-mark and swim 59.28 for the boys 5k, earning him another top 10 finish, placing 6th.

Congratulations also go to friends of Propulsion, Harvey Larke (MVC), Ben Morrison (MVC) and Emile Stigter (Flyers) who swam incredibly well over the weekend.

Thanks to head coach, Seb Bettiol, for taking the team across and for all his care, attention, guidance and support.
