2019 Victorian Open Short Course Championships

The Victorian Open Short Course Championships were held on 14-15 September 2019. This was the first meet at which our club competed under its new name, Western Melbourne Propulsion.

Over 2 days and nights of competition, we had 15 swimmers compete, with numerous PBs, multiple swimmers making finals, and 2 individual medallists. The club also won a relay medal, marking the first time in the club's history that we have won a relay medal at an Open Championship.

Highlights of the meet included:

The following swimmers making finals: Robbe Dilissen (400FR), Brianna Donato (400IM, 200FR, 400FR, 200FL), Liam Laidlaw (100IM, 100FR, 200IM), Ray Oo (100FR), Thomas Pearson (50BR, 100BR), Adam Selwood (200BR, 400IM, 50BR, 200IM, 100BR), Lushavel Stickland (100FR), Luka Zubcic (100FR, 50FR, 50FL).

Our 2 individual medallists were: Robbe Dilissen (Silver 1500FR, Bronze 800FR) and Lushavel Stickland (Silver 50BK, Bronze 50FR, Bronze 100BK).

Our relays also all did exceptionally well. Our mixed 4x50FR comprising Ray Oo, Lushavel Stickland, Brianna Donato and Luka Zubcic, placed 4th.

Our men's 4x100Medley A, comprising Liam Laidlaw, Adam Selwood, Luka Zubcic and Ray Oo placed 4th. Our B team comprising Thomas Pearson, Will Middleton, Ben Silke and Johann Stickland, also made the top 10, placing 9th.

The Men's 4x100FR relay was exceptionally exciting. Our B team comprising Robbe Dilissen, Jesse Coulson, Thomas Pearson and Adam Selwood, placed 10th. Our A team, comprising Liam Laidlaw, Ray Oo, Johann Stickland and Luka Zubcic, won bronze, and became the club's first ever relay team to claim a medal at an Open event.
