2019 Hancock Prospecting Australian Short Course Swimming Championships

November 15, 2019

WMP had a team of 7 athletes qualifying and competing at these Open Championships over 24, 25 and 26 October 2019. The event comprised 3 days of intense competition against Australia's best.

This was an exciting meet, attracting some of the best local talent, including Australian Dolphins David Morgan, Mack Horton, Kotuku Ngawati and Ahmed Kelly, as well as international super stars, such as Olympic Gold Medallist, Joseph Schooling from Singapore. There were also multiple Olympic Alumni in attendance, such as Dawn Fraser, Andrew Lauterstein, Matt Welsh, Linley Frame and Nicole Livingstone, just to name a few.

Our team comprised Robbe Dilissen, Liam Laidlaw, Ray Oo, Thomas Pearson, Adam Selwood and Luka Zubcic. We also had Johann Stickland rounding out our relay teams, and Lushavel Stickland, representing Samoa.

Our athletes did us proud, with multiple finals appearances:

Robbe Dilissen (800FR, 1500FR), Ray Oo (50FR), Adam Selwood (200BR), Luka Zubcic (50FR).

Our relays also made the top 10. The 4x100FR, comprising Ray Oo, Liam Laidlaw, Johann Stickland and Luka Zubcic finished 6th. The 4x100Medley, comprising Johann Stickland, Adam Selwood, Luka Zubcic and Ray Oo, finished 10th.

In addition, Lushavel Stickland made finals in the 100BK, 50FR and 50BK, and swam extraordinarily well.

It was great to see a number of parents and families attend on Saturday night to support our swimmers. We also had a few privileged juniors - Chloe King, Alanna Malovan and Jack Robinson - represent us on pool deck as basket-handlers for the finals session on Saturday night.
